A mother flamingo shares a tender moment with her chick.
I wanted to use some really punchy color, and a flamingo was the perfect subject. This was the picture where I learned that not all cotton fabrics are created equal. The light green fabric on the palmettos was a much looser weave than the other quilting fabrics I had been using. I didn’t know this was important until after I’d cut the pieces and realized the light green fabric was starting to fray. I was devastated, thinking my picture was ruined, until it occurred to me that palmetto plants kind of fray all on their own. I left the frays in this picture but made a point to use Fray Check religiously in the future.
